As a home decor blogger on Instagram, I get asked the same few questions quite often.
What is the paint color on your walls?
Where did you get your headboard?
What is the star thing your baby sleeps in?
The last question always cracks me up! But I've been asked so many times now, that I might as well right an entire post about it! So let me tell you all about our favorite little baby product and how we got started with them.
One thing I've learned after having three kids in 4 years is that sleep is totally underrated. I've nursed all three of my kids for at least 6 months up to a year and I can promise you one thing, when I'm done my husband will have sole responsibility of getting up in the night if someone needs a parent for a potty break or a glass of water. "That's on you honey!"
We struggled pretty bad with our first born, Ireland. Many sleepless nights and two very exhausted parents later, we decided to not make the same mistakes with our second born. After we had such great success with Hudson, our second baby, sleeping through the night, I was sure that if I had any more children, they would follow his lead and all would be well. But then Rory came into our family in September 2014. And ladies and gentlemen, he is thee world's worst sleeper.
Things were rough from the start. We tried using the same routines with Rory as we did with our second born. We used the same sleep sacks and the same baby music. The same swing. The same lighting. But it wasn't working like it had before. Rory was waking up every 45 minutes consistently. We discovered he liked to be swaddled and that increased his sleeping a little which was great. For awhile. The swaddling only lasted so long before he was squirming out of the swaddle, rolling over and waking himself up. I was beginning to feel defeated.
After venting to my parents about the lack of sleep I was getting, my father suggested I try the Zipadee-zip, a product he saw on Shark Tank that week. I gave it a try with not much expectation of improvement. But it totally shocked me. He immediately started sleeping better and quickly grew so attached to it that he wouldn't fall asleep without it.
Here's how it's different from all the other sleep sacks out there... The star-fish shape of the Zipadee-zip helps to keep the babies arms and legs close in and restricts them from awakening from the "moro reflex". Moro reflex is like a startle reflex that causes them to kick or punch the air when they hear a noise or sense something different in the room. We had this issue with Rory because he was constantly hearing his toddler brother and sister running around the house. He would get started, his arms or legs would jolt, and he would wake up crying almost immediately. But then our Zipadee-zip arrived and it was truly a God-send. He started sleeping longer and waking up less from startling noises. He could easily roll around in his crib in it and we could also use it in the swing. We used it in the car and we used it for stroller rides. He pretty much never came out of it.
After a while, we decided to try a night without the Zipadee-zip. I knew we liked our zippy but I was curious how dependent he was on it and to see if it really made that big of a difference. Well, that was a mistake! He quickly became restless and stressed. Crying for lengthy periods at a time. Tossing and turning! It was clear that we needed to bring back his zippy. The moment we put him back in it, he gently calmed down and fell asleep! And that my friends, is when I became a loyal fan!
We are so happy with our Zipadee-zip, I want to give one of you a chance to win a free Zippy to try for yourself! Perhaps you could use it with your child or you know someone you could gift it to! It's easy, here's how to win:
