Happy 4th of July! The fourth is actually my favorite holiday. Because we have three little kids who have yet to learn the awesomeness of staying up late and watching fireworks, we decided to keep it easy this year and stay home but there was no way we were not going to celebrate a little! We decided to invite my family over for breakfast and we served a traditional “breakfast at Wimbledon”- a breakfast we have enjoyed in our family for many years!
The breakfast is really simple. We start with a bowl of fresh cut strawberries then add in toppings like blueberries, brown sugar, and chopped macadamia nuts. Top it with heavy cream and it is just an absolutely perfect combination for a summer morning brunch. My mother made butter scones for our side and I served thyme and strawberry mimosas.
The tablescape is an assortment of pieces because I have zero full sets. Someday, perhaps when I am a grown up ;), I will have full sets for all holidays! Today, I used silver chargers under mixed plates with blue tones and used red Fiesta Bowls. The mason jar mugs are from Ace Hardware (see outdoor bar cart post for details). The blue glass vases are actually hollowed candlesticks from World Market and I love the versatility of them! The ceramic pot in the center is also from World Market. And of course it wouldn’t be family gathering without our courtly check Mackenzie Childs pieces that my sister, mother, and I all collect!
Here are a few more shots of the table before breakfast!
And a few shots of how we spent the rest of our morning with backyard dance parties and games.
